WHOLE PERSON CARING

An Interprofessional Model for Healing and Wellness

Lucia Thornton, MSN, RN, AHN-BC

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing,

Indianapolis, IN, $44.95

The time has come, the walrus said “to speak of many things-”

And indeed the word holistic has become so widely used that hardware stores are now proudly announcing that they are holistic! Most hospitals are now claiming to have Integrative Medical systems. The words have come a lot further than the true integration into modern medicine. Nevertheless, as Wayne Jonas wisely says, there is “the urgent need to shift our focus from disease care to wellness and healing-”

When we started the American Holistic Medical Association, a former neurosurgical colleague wrote that the leaders of the holistic movement spoke too well and were too charismatic, and that “we are too busy taking care of disease to prevent it.”

That charismatic speaking and writing has brought us a long way and Lucia Thornton expresses it eloquently! We are both in need of and at the threshold of restoring CARING for ourselves and for patients. This book helps everyone stay present in continuing the essential path towards wholeness. All physicians, nurses and true HEALTH PROFESSIONALS will do well to read and heed the wise advice herein.
