Taurine: The Critical “Conditionally Essential” Amino Acid

Taurine is obtained ONLY from animal products — fish, poultry, beef, pork, and slightly in milk and eggs. Although the producers of hemp hearts state that they contain taurine, they cannot tell me how much! They apparently have not measured it!! So, it may be like most of the claims about “weed”.

Low blood levels of taurine are found in:

  • High intakes of MSG — thus all fast-food junkies, as well as those who eat a lot of canned foods!

  • Alcoholics
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Most cancers
  • B 6 deficiency
  • Zinc deficiency
  • Vitamin A deficiency
  • High-performance athletes
  • Chronic fatigue

In other words, if you have virtually any disease or major stress, you are probably deficient in TAURINE!

Supplements of 4 to 6 grams are often helpful and up to 10 grams may be useful. The only situation where large doses may not be good is psoriasis, where increased itching has been reported at doses of 2 grams.
