PREVENTING HEART DISEASE

Heart “attack” is still the number one way to die. Here are the major ways to protect and prevent heart disease.
By age 50 at latest, check:
  • Homocysteine-healthy is below 7.6
  • High-Sensitivity C-Reactive protein-healthy is below 1
  • Cholesterol-healthy is between 150 and 190, with HDL 50 or above
  • Free, unconjugated DHEA (Nichols Lab), Healthy is 750 to 1250 ng/dl in a man and 550 to 980 ng/dl in a woman
  • Get a CT of heart- a calcium score. Ideal is zero
  • Keep your Body Mass Index between 18 and 24
  • No smoking
  • Exercise a minimum of 30 minutes five days a week
  • Practice self-regulation stress reduction daily
