I have commented before on POPULAR DELUSIONS & THE MADNESS OF CROWDS. The time has come to discuss the two most flagrant and persistent insanities in the human condition.

First and foremost is the putting down of women. When I met Anne Schaef and read WOMEN’S REALITY, I first realized just how ridiculous this minimally 5000-year-old cult was. How on earth can someone put down your mother, wife, or sister? Despite centuries of utter ignorance about the physics of procreation, it has always been the woman who bears the child.

Perhaps we can also how essential all working people are to the symphony of life.

I, as a neurosurgeon, cannot perform even the simplest of procedures without the assistance of numerous others, from nurses to those who do the laundry and clean the rooms.

In 1966, we had just moved into a new house and the toilet backed up. I called a plumber who came out and asked “Doc, where is the cleanout trap?” I did not even know what a cleanout trap was!

It turns out that our cleanout trap had been blacktopped over. At 95 degrees with humidity of 100%, he stood in the drive with a pickaxe, digging a hole where he assumed it was! And he was right. I immediately recognized that he was contributing as much to my life as I ever could contribute to anyone else! In fact, I consider all pleasant plumbers saints!

Life is a great huge symphony, and even the musicians cannot perform without a huge support staff. The violins can be rather shrill without all the other instruments. True harmony requires scores of people.

Although I realized in 1944 that my Boy Scout’s Handbook was, at best, lying about the risks of masturbation. It said masturbation caused epilepsy and many other serious disorders! Now, reading A MIND OF ITS OWN, I understand the second greatest insanity of the world, that around the penis.

Of course, I was vaguely aware of the castrati, just one of the scores of crazy concepts from the great Eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven! Among others the several-hundred-year fetish among whites about the greater length of the black penis. And yet it has been as scientifically shown that the AVERAGE difference is less than one-third inch!! That seems as insane as putting women down, burning witches, derivatives, and virtually every war.
