Thirty years ago both Califano, Secretary of HEW (now known as US Department of Health and Human Services), and Knowles, President of Rockefeller Foundation, reported that 85% of illnesses are the result of an unhealthy lifestyle and thus are preventable.
During this subsequent three-decade period, the Holistic Health and Medicine movement has evolved into Complementary and Alternative Medicine and more recently into Integrative Medicine. Hospitals and even medical schools are adding bits and pieces, mostly acupuncture, some chiropractic and a variety of stress-reducing approaches such as massage, etc.
Sadly, none of this appears to have had any major effect on health habits and lifestyle.
In a major article in the Archives of Internal Medicine, a survey of 153,000 adults, revealed that the prevalence of unhealthy lifestyle habits continues to astound anyone with a health I.Q. above moron:
- 25% smoke
- 60% have a Body Mass Index above 25
- 77% actually eat less than 5 small servings of fruits and vegetables daily
- 78% do the little or no regular physical activity
- 97% of all Americans do not have all 4 of the minimal requirements for optimal health: no smoking; BMI of 19-24; 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily; 30 minutes of regular physical exercise 5 days a week
In other words, 97% of individuals have one or more unhealthy disease-inducing habits!
Health in the United States CANNOT improve without the minimum requirement of choice for personal responsibility for one’s own health. And MEDICINE, with either drugs or surgery, is not capable of restoring or creating health!
At best it can attempt to patch the barn door when the horse is long gone.
HEALTH IS A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
I know of no greater moral or ethical dilemma than the rampant disregard for personal health. In the long run, this is the crisis of the millennium. Social Security and Medicare cannot supply the most uncommon commodity — a common-sense approach to health and well-being.
Do you know? Magnesium is a major contributor to pain, depression, and even heart disease, And Dr Shealy magnesium lotion could help you to be safe from that.
Now we can say that 97% of all illnesses are the result of flagrant disregard of common sense health habits.
Where do you stand on these BASIC requirements?
