Vitamin D & Health
C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

Vitamin D 3 deficiency creates more widespread diseases than any other known nutrient, with significant ADVERSE influences on heart, blood pressure, skeleton and immune function, including virtually all cancers. The recommended daily intake of 400 units is equivalent to saying you need only one ounce of water daily! The safe level of D3 is 10,000 units daily for a 70 Kg person (154 pounds). For this reason I have recommended for many years that the average person take 50,000 units once a week. The minimum blood level of D 3 should be 75 nmol/L and the safe level is up to 200 nmol/L. My level runs about 165.

D toxicity leads to excess blood calcium levels, which can cause serious kidney problems.
