Updated Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

I would like to share a theory I am developing based on a trend I am observing in my clients. I believe in the updated Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs however, instead of transcendence as another Need Level at the top of the pyramid, I believe it actually encompasses all Need Levels. A person’s spiritual purpose is defined by their unmet needs. I have seen this time and time again with my clients. When making decisions or contemplating their life, the decision is consistently centered around an opportunity to fulfill or address a deficient Need Level. Therefore, I believe based on the evidence I am seeing, that once a person’s need level(s) are identified, the individual can fulfill themselves by helping others on the same need level. They have the ability to help others on this level because they identify with the other person’s desires and feelings. Once this Need Level is fulfilled, the individual grows into becoming their most fulfilled and enriched self with a satisfying and happy life around them. They can then continue to help others based on any Need Level and live a life dedicated to Transcendence.
