NSAID’s increase risk of strokes, heart attack and collagenous colitis

C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

The exception is aspirin and herbs.

The risky ones include:

  • diclofenac (Cambia, Cataflam, Voltaren-XR, Zipsor, Zorvolex)
  • ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil)
  • indomethacin (Indocin)
  • ketoprofen
  • ketorolac (Toradol – discontinued brand)
  • naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprelan, Naprosyn)
  • oxaprozin (Daypro)
  • piroxicam (Feldene)

Aspirin actually decreases risk of heart attacks and stroke but does have risk of intestinal bleeding and rare severe allergy. It should probably be taken only as BUFFERED.

Turmeric and Boswellin appear to be safe anti-inflammatory herbs for most people.
