It is an enormous responsibility, especially when you are the only one who can take it on. And, if you have children, you have the responsibility for them, as well. I’m talking about living a healthy life; making choices that will give you a stress-free existence and therefore a greater chance of vibrant health.
Most people don’t learn the steps to living a healthy life while they’re young enough to make them part of their formative development.
Heck, most of today’s adults are living lifestyles learned or handed down from decades of modernization and convenience “advancements.” Their parents and grandparents were increasingly relieved of cooking (and even thinking) as processed food and drive-thrus became the American way.
Fast. Temporary. Disposable. That became the guiding mantra behind everything that should really matter – including, tragically, health and wellness.
At some point in their adult lives, most people have a come-to-Jesus moment, and they’re faced with a choice.
- Am I genuinely healthy, or am I a walking time bomb?
- Who has been my role model for living a stress-free, healthy life? Has it been enough?
- Have I been kidding myself all this time?
- How do I go about making the changes I would need to make when I’ve been doing the same thing my whole life?
- Can I afford to change everything I’ve known and done?
- Can I afford not to?
- Will it really make a difference at this point?
- Will I have to figure it out on my own? Will anyone help me?
- When do I start?
- How do I start?
- It all sounds good, but can I really do this?
Let’s talk about that walking time bomb, and you tell me whether you fit the bill.
Consider these ugly-but-true facts:
34.1 million Americans over age 18 smoke.
(Why? Why would anyone even start this habit after all we have learned about smoking and the evils of the tobacco industry?)
And more than 16 million Americans live with a smoking-related disease. Tragic. And unnecessary.
More than a third of Americans are obese.
Clinically, this means they have a body mass index of 30 or above.
More than a third of Americans are overweight.
Their BMI (25-29.9) may be under the obesity threshold, but they are still at an elevated risk of obesity-related illness.
More than 71% of Americans are being poisoned by the fluoride in their city water.
Fluoride not only calcifies the melatonin-producing pineal gland, it kills off the sperm count in men. So, basically, people are losing sleep and reproductivity.
Stress underlies almost all disease.
And we are not talking only about the obvious physical diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
We are talking about dis-ease in every aspect of life – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, relational, financial.
Not knowing how to create a stress-free inner existence while living in a chaotic world is literally killing people.
What would your life look like, how would your body feel, and how would your spirit feel if you didn’t feel governed by stress?
So, back to that time bomb. Do you hear the ticking in your own life?
Are you ready to call in the veritable bomb squad and defuse what’s killing you?
Believe it or not, it is possible to live a stress-free, happy life. And I’m going to tell you how to do it in 9 steps.
Retrain your brain.
Life is full of stressors. There’s no getting around it. But how you respond to them is what determines whether your life is stressful or stress-free.
There are always going to be things you can’t control. But that truth doesn’t stop most people from trying. It’s almost reflexive, the effort to control or change what you don’t like.
Through Autogenic Training and our Biogenics® course, you can retrain your brain to follow new messages. You will even be able to change your perception of pain.
The way you think is central to all healing, health, and meaningful existence. Every thought is a prayer, a conducting breath into the manifestation of your unspoken intentions.
You are, after all, a spiritual being having a physical experience, not the other way around.
This step for living a healthy life is an umbrella over all the others.
If your brain’s not on board, the rest of you certainly won’t be.
Nutrition.
Only 2.5% of people eat the right way. That’s such a tiny percentage that you would be hard-pressed to find these people.
An overwhelming majority of people are lured in by fast food and the slop that makes up most of what is in the grocery stores.
Instead of getting 8-10 (or even 5) servings of fruits and vegetables a day, most people are lucky to eat just over two.
When you go to the grocery store, be sure to shop only the perimeter of the store (fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, and fish). Stay away from the interior aisles where all the packaged food is.
If everything that crossed your lips had to audition for a role in your body, what would make the cut?
Viewing nutrition this way as opposed to “What’s less bad and what can I get away with?” will set up a proactive mindset toward nutrition.
And the following step is inextricably linked to this one.
Supplementation.
Sadly, even the most conscientious efforts to have a healthy diet will fall short, thanks in part to our polluted environment.
The fluoride in city waters, as I mentioned before, causes a stream of problems that can cause your health to spiral downward.
The proper supplementation, taken in the most absorbable form, will help to make sure your body has all it needs to thrive.
Some basics include our Essentials and Youth Formula, magnesium lotion, L-taurine, and ORAC-Energy Greens which can replace the nutrients you miss from an insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables.
Sleep.
Seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep a night is so important for a healthy life.
This is your body’s time to restore itself, physically and mentally.
Did you know that people who sleep six hours or less have more automobile accidents than all drug- and alcohol-related accidents combined? They literally function at the level of ‘slightly drunk.’
Think you can simply trim off an hour or two a night in order to do more or get more done?
Simple math will tell you that, by the end of a single week, you will be one- to two-nights’ sleep-deprived.
That’s how critical sleep is.
Exercise.
Our bodies were created to move. Plain and simple. I (Norm) exercise for two hours every morning – not because I have to, but because I love to.
At a minimum, 30 minutes a day, five days a week is essential.
To give perspective to the importance of exercise, put this frightening fact into your memory bank: People who sit all day have the same risk as someone who smokes one to two packs of cigarettes a day.
Remember that exercise isn’t only about your physical body. It connects all aspects of your being – physical, mental, emotional, even spiritual.
Control your weight.
If the weight statistics I mentioned earlier gave you a scare, good. They should.
Being overweight, let alone obese, is a gateway to a series of other issues – systemic issues like high blood pressure and diabetes, and also orthopedic issues.
Add to these the collateral damage of a ravaged self-esteem, increased depression, and decreased social engagement, and the magnitude of obesity comes into view.
Obesity leads to a vicious cycle of illness, lack of energy, pain, medication, and an overall diminishment in life quality.
Stop. Smoking.
Smoking is the most preventable cause of death.
Let me repeat that.
Smoking is the most preventable cause of death.
No, the addiction is not “just like that” easy to break, especially if you are not living the other steps to a healthy life.
But there is no way to be a smoker and be healthy.
Unlike food, cigarettes and their colleagues are not something you “have to” have a relationship with. They are 100% elective and 100% destructive. There is not a single aspect of smoking that seeks to benefit you.
Retrain your brain, nourish and heal your body, and rally the benefits of these final two steps to create a peaceful state of mind.
And, for the love of life, don’t start smoking!
Get into ‘the zone.’
Getting your brain into gamma frequency is the key to creating a stress-free inner reality.
The concept of gamma frequency in the brain (40 cycles per second) was first discovered in Buddhist monks who meditate eight hours a day.
We don’t expect that you have eight hours a day to commit to meditation. But you can still achieve gamma and all its benefits with the Shealy-Sorin Gamma PEMF® device.
It puts the brain into gamma, aka ‘the zone.’ It lowers all stress, and it is the single greatest treatment in history for depression, anxiety, and narcotic or opioid addiction.
Take a moment to let the power of that sink in. Your own brain can become its own antidepressant and its own cure for addiction.
Imagine what else you can achieve “in the zone”!
Raise your DHEA.
Simply put, you can’t be healthy with low DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).
This precursor steroid precursor hormone is the most widely circulating hormone in the body.
But it takes a nosedive by age 40 and continues to decrease into old age.
You don’t have to accept that fate and its sickly consequences, however.
DHEA is so essential to your well-being that you simply can’t be healthy with a low level of it.
But I advocate the right way to raise your DHEA: Make it, don’t take it!
You don’t have to guess or figure out how to do this on your own. We can guide you in combining magnesium, vitamin C, Youth Formula, and natural progesterone cream to raise your DHEA level by as much as 250%.
How many of these steps toward a stress-free, healthy life are you actually doing right now? Every single one is essential for true health. (And being free of clinically detectable disease is not the same as being in good health!)
Your takeaway today needs to be one of possibility, not discouragement.
These essential steps for a healthy life may sound overwhelming when taken as a list. But keep in mind that you are where you are because of choices you have made.
That’s not a reprimand. It is a reality check with a big dose of own-it-to-change-it attached.
If you have learned your current behaviors and habits, you can learn new ones.
If you have “junk-fooded” your way to obesity and diabetes, you can certainly learn and come to enjoy a new way of eating.
And, if you are still reaching for a cigarette as your stress-freeing go-to, we implore you to stop.
The power of these steps, like all steps in a staircase, is that, collectively, they lead to a place of ascended living. They work together on behalf of a common destination that is more than a bucket-list excursion.
It is where you need to live. It is actually where you were created to live.
And you don’t have to get there alone. There is always help for those who ask.
That’s the holistic way.
Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D. is the father of holistic medicine. Dr. Sergey Sorin is a holistic physician as well as the CEO and medical director of the Shealy-Sorin Wellness Institute. Both doctors recommend the Biogenics® System as part of your overall commitment to a healthy, stress-free life.
