How to Get Off Depression Meds for Good

If you’re Googling “how to get off depression meds” chances are you know how dangerous they are. In fact, antidepressant drugs are an ineffective way to treat depression. Most people, including doctors, don’t know this because the PharmacoMafia prevents the publication of 75% of the negative studies about depression meds! Even more concerning is that the risk of suicide increases when you take these ineffective drugs!

Unfortunately, you can’t just get off depression meds cold turkey.

Sudden withdrawal from these ineffective drugs is extremely dangerous! It is best done by working with a Holistic physician who can guide and advise you.

In fact, the reason I (Dr. Norm Shealy) started the first Holistic clinic in October 1971 was to wean chronic pain patients off narcotics and tranquilizers!

At that time, we admitted such patients to a one-month in-hospital program, which included slowly decreasing the drugs over a three-week period, while treating with Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, massage, hot tub, ice rubdowns, and psychotherapy. Our success rate was 85% with the addition of Autogenic Training, photo stimulation and biofeedback in 1972.

In 1974 we converted to a two-week outpatient intensive program, with the addition of a spiritual healer and medical intuition and our program expanded to include all chronic diseases – including depression, which are very unsuccessfully treated with conventional medicine. NO chronic illness is well-treated by any drugs!

Through the years we have multiplied the therapies available and can even do the intensive program virtually by phone, Zoom or Skype.

Today, when a patient seeks our assistance with getting off depression meds, our holistic approach remains incredibly successful at over 85%.

The first step is an initial consultation during which we assess the patient’s overall health. Getting off antidepressants can take a month or two. And the results of the assessment allow us to develop a personalized plan for the patient. After an initial consultation, we develop a plan that the patient can do just as effectively at home.

Nutrition is key.

The place most of our patients who are ready to wean off antidepressants need to start is with nutrition. Holistic nutrition isn’t just about what you eat or don’t eat it’s also about appropriate supplementation to make sure your body has the building blocks it needs to be holistically healthy.

Our nutrition recommendations include avoiding sugar, wheat, rice and Irish potatoes and eating real foods – not processed or fast-food crap. We also recommend basic supplements of vitamin D3, our multivitamin Shealy-Sorin Eco Green Essentials, Shealy-Sorin Youth Formula, and astaxanthin.

Patients will often also need immune-enhancing supplements because for many chronic problems, immune function is compromised. In this situation, we may recommend a combination of intravenous vitamin C and intravenous ozone and the five Bliss Essential Oils among other supplements.

Physical exercise is more effective than any antidepressant.

Exercise is the next holistic essential to get in place for getting off depression meds. A progressive exercise program is necessary. Actually, 30 minutes of physical exercise is far more effective than any of the useless depression meds. Even passive movement with accu-massage or a vibeplate is helpful.

Electrotherapy can shift the system.

A successful plan for getting off depression meds will also include Cranial Electrical Stimulation, the Shealy RelaxMate, TENS, and the Shealy-Sorin Gamma PEMF®.

Regaining a healthy DHEA level can make all the difference.

DHEA reaches its peak production at age 25, but cumulative stress begins to reduce it by age 40. By age 80, it’s only about 10% of the age 25 level. Lower levels of DHEA are associated with every known disease – including, of course, depression.

In healthy men, the level of free DHEA ranges from 750 to 1280 ng/dl. In healthy women, the range is from 550 to 950 ng/dl. A study of several hundred patients revealed that half of the patients were below the healthy range. The other half were in the serious deficiency range below 130 in women and below 180 in men.

Although DHEA is available over the counter, we do not recommend taking it unless you are being treated with a steroid. However, you can restore your DHEA levels an average of 250% by using the following:
