Longevity has hit the mainstream just as LIFE BEYOND 100 comes out. December 31, 2005, 2 days after the release of my book, The Utah DESERET MORNING NEWS carried a decade-long report led by researchers from my alma mater, Duke University, reporting on the quality of life and general health in 3500 participants over 65 years of age. Many were beyond 85 and in good health. Interestingly the article did not mention the fact that Cache County has a 90% Mormon population. It has long been known that Mormons and 7th Day Adventists have significantly longer life expectancies than ”average” Americans. Presumably, this longevity is related to no smoking or alcohol consumption and a strong faith with strong social support.

Even though the study emphasized Cache County, Utah, a chart in the report showed even better health nationally! For instance, in the over-85 age group, 63.4% of men and 66% of the women in the national survey considered themselves healthy, compared with 61.6% and 59.2% in the Utah study. More than 90% of the Utah group between 65 and 84 were independent in their activities of daily living. And more than two-thirds of those over 85 were still independent. THIS IS TRUE NATIONALLY!

And on January 1, 2006, CBS 60 MINUTES featured ”The Quest for Immortality”. Researchers from Cambridge University emphasized that houses can last more or less ”forever” with good maintenance. They suggest that it is the accumulation of junk toxins in the body that leads to illness and death. Perhaps nowhere is this more obvious than in DNA, where free radicals create cumulative damage. DeGrey, from Cambridge, compares those who debunk his concept that humans might live 100 years to those Neanderthals who continued to believe the earth was flat long after it was clearly evident that it was round. As Dr. Edward Bach said almost 100 years ago, ”Ignorance is the failure to accept facts”. Good maintenance of the body requires good nutrition, positive thinking, adequate exercise, no smoking or excess drinking, etc. And I believe good maintenance requires the same more major ”repairs” that a house requires. This means rejuvenating DHEA, Calcitonin, and a major cleanup by reducing free radicals, the major result of toxic accumulation!

Some 15 years ago I began to believe that those with the healthiest habits would maintain healthy DHEA levels long after most people were deficient. My mother, at age 83 had a DHEA level twice that of most 65-year-olds. She is still going strong at 94. One of my doctoral students has been studying healthy 90+-year-olds. In 10 of them, the oldest 107, DHEA levels are well above those of most 60-year-olds.

More important, perhaps, than DHEA, is free radicals. It is free radicals that damage DNA and ultimately create aging and death. To date, there is no known supplement that reduces free radicals. There is some evidence that natural fruits and vegetables do help reduce free radicals; the isolated antioxidants (C, E and beta carotene, and even Co-Q 10, etc.) that are thought to be responsible for free radical reduction do not reduce free radicals when taken as supplements. BUT stimulation of the Ring of Crystal, 13 specific acupuncture points, with the SheLi TENS, strikingly reduces free radicals in 85% of people. Just 21 minutes per day. I have proven this in scores of people. I predict that this approach, continued over many years will rejuvenate DNA and assist in living healthily a much longer life. I know Ring of Crystal stimulation reduces free radicals and I know that we can rejuvenate the other two key chemicals, DHEA and Calcitonin. I hope to prove DNA rejuvenation in the next year.

LIFE BEYOND 100 is an idea whose time has come!

And if you need more convincing, consider that as of 2023 the average American lifespan has decreased to 76.4 years. This is the shortest it’s been in nearly two decades. In my opinion, the reasons for this decrease are:

  • Obesity subtracts about 6 years of life
  • Smoking subtracts about 4 years of life
  • Street drugs subtract about 2 years of life
  • Excess alcohol subtracts about 2 years of life
  • Inactivity subtracts 5 years of life
  • Under- and over-diagnosis subtracts 4 years of life

If everyone would avoid these habits, the average American life expectancy would be nearly 100 years! Further, if you avoid these unhealthy habits, you could add at least 39 HEALTHY years and achieve youthful aging by:

The purpose of life is to help other people, but you must take care of yourself in order to do good to others.

Health and happiness are inside jobs!

Finally, always remember you are living in the temple of your soul.
